Resident in the west of Ireland, IAN GORDON has spent most of his life balancing new ideas with traditional ways. In 1979, the perceived ecological crisis prompted a move from London to a smallholding beside the Atlantic. What then was the effect on his urban taste for jazz and conceptual Land Art ? An art practice of burying embroidery on lonely mountains. In the intervening years, well settled on the small farm, we now find him persisting with this land art, whilst also having taken up traditional landscape painting. Surprisingly, he now finds his youthful invention has assumed a constancy, a classic orthodoxy; whilst the latter, applying paint to canvas, continues to surprise!
