This assignment for the Gulbenkian Foundation is part of Gulbenkian’s Human Scale Education project. Stantonbury Campus is a large comprehensive in Milton Keynes in southern England, with more than two and a half thousand students. Stantonbury Campus works on the schools within schools model; all students belong to one of five halls, with about 500 students in each.

Small learning communities, where relationships are close, make it practical to introduce problem-solving learning. This year 8 group worked on ‘Patterns, Sequences and Transformations; A Murder Mystery’ – students were encouraged to understand the connections between different subjects. Solving the Murder Mystery involved aspects of science, mathematics, art, PE, music and dance.
